Interior

The Ford Fusion has improved its interior design for the 2018 model year, earning it some approval from critics. But many critics still agree that the Chevrolet Impala has a sharper and more stylish interior, in addition to better base equipment and infotainment technology. Plus, the Chevrolet Impala offers a longer wheelbase, a larger trunk, and overall more room in the cabin for passengers.

Power

Both vehicles come with inline-4 engines, but the Chevy Impala uses a more capable direct-injection system that earns it a rating of 197 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Ford Fusion lags slightly behind at 175 horsepower. Despite the difference in power, the Impala and the Fusion both get a fuel economy of 25 mpg combined, so Chevy provides both performance and efficiency.*

Safety

The Ford Fusion and the Chevrolet Impala both have overall federal safety ratings of five stars. However, the Impala has an advantage when you look at individual crash test ratings; it received five stars in every single category except for Rollover and Side Barrier, which both earned four stars. Meanwhile, the Fusion received only four stars in Frontal Barrier and Rollover, and only three stars in the passenger Frontal Barrier test.
